At the sixth EU-India smart grid forum, Professor Jean-Michel Glachant, Director-Florence School of Regulation interviewed Mr Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD Tata Power.
Watch them discuss how utilities can play an active role in India’s power sector reforms and particularly the experiences of Tata Power ( 100+ years and the largest integrated utility in India) in electric vehicles and electricity storage.
Some of the key aspects include:
· As a utility, keen on innovating and bringing in state of the art operational, technical and communication technologies to improve the quality of service and empower the end consumer.
· There is a massive potential for EVs in India, and this potential goes beyond four-wheelers, with rapid growth expected in electric two and three-wheelers. Tata Power is in the process of setting up charging infrastructure in various cities of India, depending upon EV penetration at these locations
· Storage was initially viewed as embedded generation at the load centre. However, storage can go much beyond just supplying additional power. Tata Power is in the process of installing a 10MW battery storage in New Delhi in collaboration with international partners. The main aim of this installation is to balance load at grid level and to meet peak power requirement locally.
