Royal Australian Navy HMA Ships Warramunga, Sydney and Sirius are transiting across the Gulf of Carpentaria to begin Exercise Blue Raptor. Officers on the bridge of HMAS Warramunga are conducting Officer Watch Manoeuvres with HMAS Sydney. The training provides real time situations to manoeuvre the ship around in close formations and increase and decrease speeds where necessary to practise safe seamanship.. In the next few days Royal Australian Navy Frigates HMA Ships Warramunga and Sydney will conduct patrols of the Australia's North West Shelf Oil and Gas Infrastructure as they transit to Western Australia. The North West Shelf is Australia's largest oil and gas resource development and accounts and is of vital strategic and economic importance to Australia. Royal Australian Navy units routinely patrol Australia maritime borders to safeguard against unlawful interference with off shore facilities.
