-- Lumbar spinal surgery - percutaneous fixation --

This video shows GoPro footage of a patient with a broken lumbar spine having "percutaneous fixation" in the operating theatre. The patient broke their lower back and required screws and rods to keep the broken part of the spine stable. It's possible to do this "percutaneously" which means through the skin, which is slightly less invasive for the patient.

At the beginning of the video Mr. Ahmed Sadek, one of our complex spine surgeons, is going to talk you through a 3D-printed model of the patient's ACTUAL fracture and show you how we fix it. Then we move on to actual footage of the surgery!

There are other types of fracture that require slightly different operations, but as we record them we'll post them!
