I recently installed a 4090 graphics card hoping to finally achieve decent frame rates in iRacing on my triple screen simultor running 3x 2560x1440 monitors. Just to find out, that on those few know parts of given tracks the FPS still dropped to 50 FPS! Despite a RTX 4090 and i7 11700K @4,9Ghz.
I even considered to upgrade the system to a 13900K to get the last bit of frames therefore.. I also contacted iRacing and they suggested to test the default class settings. Turned out that with the highest class 1, FPS are basically maxed out everywhere.
So I started to test all the differences between the default class 1 and the custom settings I usually use. By doing so I found out that one single setting in the graphic options is causing a ~70 FPS drop! It's using mirrors or not.
The problems:
- I personally can't / won't use iRacing without mirrors turned on
- Why is this a problem only in a few parts of the tracks - but then it's so massive, that you basically can't race there in a safe way
- WHY does iRacing don't tell you, that this single setting is basically deciding if you have 100% more frames or not?! They have to know about this, but they suggest all kind of changes, checks and 100 other things on your system, when reporting a performance issue...
So the problem is identified, but now it's about time to actually solve it iRacing!
