COLERAIN TOWNSHIP (Adam Clements) -- Colerain township police are investigating a shooting that left a seven-year-old boy with a gunshot wound in his back.
There are still a lot of unanswered questions for Colerain Township police as they work to get to the bottom of this shooting that they're currently ruling as accidental.
It happened around 2:00 Sunday afternoon.
Investigators tell local 12 the seven-year-old boy and his brother were playing in the backyard of the family's home on Impala Drive.
That's when a gun went off and the boys grandfather heard the shot from inside the house.
The two boys came running inside and the grandfather called 911.
The boy who was shot was rushed to Children's where he's currently recovering.
Terri Cutter, a neighbor, tells her account of what happened.
"I just heard the gunshot," said Cutter. "I was sitting in my room, I heard it and I lifted the window to see if I could see anything right away and I couldn't but I heard the kid screaming."
Police aren't releasing a whole lot of information. They're trying to determine if anyone else was in the backyard, who the gun belongs to and just how it ended up firing and hitting that little boy.
