Konden is a mask rhythm from the Northeast region of Guinea, where the Malinke people came from.
In terms of mask rhythms, there are rhythms for sacred masks and rhythms for "general" masks in social settings.
Konden belongs to the category of masks for social settings.
Usually the dancer who wears the Konden mask dance while holding a stick made from a small tree branch, or a twig. When the rhythm is played, the person wearing the Konden mask will dance and chase after young children. The elders in the village would tell children that if they don't behave, the Konden mask will come after them.
