Big crowds turned out for the Memorial Day weekend in the U.S. amid warnings from authorities about people disregarding the coronavirus social-distancing rules and risking a resurgence of the virus that has killed nearly 100,000 Americans, the highest number of any country.

From a packed pool in the Ozarks, to beaches bustling with crowds, and boardwalks with people shoulder-to-shoulder -- large outdoor gatherings were plentiful across the U.S. as the weather heated up and states' coronavirus restrictions eased.

Some beaches in California closed their parking lots to limit the number of visitors, with safety officers actively encourage people to distance and wear masks.
