How was the Sith rule of two created?

By the time of the galactic empire, the Sith Order had a long tradition of only having two members. As most of you will already know, this was certainly not always the case. So how exactly did the rule of two traditions come to be and how was its founder, Darth Bane able to destroy the Sith entirely?

Around a thousand years before the clone wars, the sith were weak. Unlike the sith of the time of Vitiate and Darth Revan, they were no longer ruled by the strong. Many weaker sith often teamed up to overthrow the most powerful Sith lords, leading to a gradual but persistent diminishing of the Siths power. Darth Bane was disgusted by this, seeking to destroy the brotherhood of the darkness that ruled the order and instigate the rule of two. He did this in a devious but powerful way, in line with his own philosophy. During a battle between the sith and the Jedi, Bane duped the brotherhood of darkness into creating a thought bomb. The thought bomb required all of the sith to partake in a ritual that would eventually consume all force sensitivities across the planet. However, the Sith were unaware of this, believing this would only kill the Jedi. The thought bomb exploded, wiping out all of the Sith while also wiping out many Jedi. After this, Bane and his apprentice, Darth Zannah, were the last Sith, allowing for the creation of the rule of two, the Sith tradition which eventually culminated in the destruction of both the Jedi and the Republic. While Banes rule of two sith tradition was very successful, it did have some major faults which eventually led to its downfall, as we discussed in this video.
