The Western Burrowing Owl is Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society's nominee for CA Audubon's 2013 Bird of the Year. The California population of Western Burrowing Owls has declined over 60 percent in the last two decades. Conservation efforts must be focused if the owl is to persist in Santa Clara County. Two cities in the county have a combined 36 breeding pairs of Burrowing Owls. SCVAS works with local cities and agencies to preserve, restore, and advocate for the habitat of the Western Burrowing Owl. Please vote for the Western Burrowing Owl for California Audubon's 2012 Bird of the Year!
