In this video, we'll learn a simple & effective method to paint up one of the most-commonly used camouflage patterns employed by the German military in WWII: Splittertarnmuster.
Splittertarnmuster, also known as Splittertarn or Splittermuster, translates roughly to "Splinter Pattern." First proposed for use by the German army way back in 1931, Splittertarnmuster equipment was fielded with nearly every regular Wehrmacht unit during the war in the form of camouflage zeltbahn shelter quarters. These highly-utilitarian pieces of kit could be fastened together to create a simple waterproof poncho, a style that you often see in archival photographs from the conflict.
Today, we'll be painting up that very use of the Splittertarnmuster Zeltbahn on one of these Tamiya 1/35 scale late-war German infantry figures.
