With a few memorable exceptions, most of my Drive In Movie Memories are from the 1970's. It was a great era for independent films released by smaller companies. Long before the VCR's, the only place to see obscure "R" rated exploitation films were at the Drive In Movie. For a kid, it was daring and thrilling to see "adult" oriented movies in the atmosphere of a Drive In Movie and under the stars. The intermission films then were influenced strongly by the swinging 60's and early 70's. It was hip, romantic, groovy and exciting to go to the Drive In. In my opinion, the 70's were definitely the most exciting era for the Drive In. When you drove into one, it felt like home, like being in your families living room, it was that warm and wonderful.
