How to seal a tire to the rim at home using common items found in the home. I had a flat tire on some small farm equipment and a friend told me about this simple technique that used a rope or strap. In this tire mounting video I used a winch strap around the tire to create pressure in the middle of the tire to push the outer wall against the wheel rim as tight as possible to create full contact between tire and rim.. The burst of air from my compressor was fast enough to form the seal. This tire only requires 24 lbs. of pressure. Once you have obtained a seal, stop so you can properly adjust the pressure without overfilling the tire. This technique can be used for larger tires such cars and truck as well. This method may come in handy when stranded on the side of the road with limited tools. You probably won't have an air compressor with you to fill the tire, but at least you can call a friend to possibly bring you the supplies. After all, a tow truck would cost you more than the purchase of a small air compressor ($150) and some straps. You can also save money on tire mounting and buy a discount tire online. It's worth a DIY try to seal the tire and rim before you hire a pro to do the tire mounting.
