The PS1 wasn’t known for its 2D sprite output - that was the realm of the Saturn, with its 4MB RAM expansion and arcade perfect ports of Darkstalkers, X-Men vs Street Fighter et al. But the PlayStation was able to pull some 2D brilliance out of the bag, and I’ve chosen a few to gawk at for a bit here. Because by crikey, they’re purdy.
Some of them have 3D elements, of course - it was the PlayStation, what do you expect? And there are dozens more worthy of mention, this I know, but I’ve just gone with six. Six of the prettiest games on PS1, what more could you ask for? Oh, more games. Well, maybe one day. Today, it’s these.
