1960: A Cinematic Spring Break
Fifty-five years ago Fort Lauderdale's annual spring ritual, spring break, was getting the Hollywood (California) treatment as the MGM picture "Where the Boys Are" rolled on location in Fort Lauderdale.
Actual college students served as extras for the shoot, a canny budget move by the producers, as the students seem to have provided their own Spring Break costuming and many of their own jalopies.
What would on-location movie stories be without star sightings? In this pair of stories we see Yvette Mimeux (peeking through a viewfinder at 01:00:45:00); co-star and soon-to-be father of Timothy Hutton Jim Hutton at 01:00:48:00; and George Hamilton, seen with an unidentified friend at 01:00:57:00.
