For lumbar herniated discs, surgeons use advanced techniques and a vascular surgery team to ensure safe access to the spine from the front of the body, where the discs are located. They can do this while successfully avoiding all organs and tissues in about 15-20 minutes and remove the herniated discs causing pain. This technique can be especially valuable in cases of severely herniated discs pushing on nerves into the back – front access allows surgeons to avoid stretched nerves and avoid adding extra stress.
