Today we are running a 100 amp service wire from the house to The work shop. We will wire it into the main panel in the house and also into the main panel in the work shop.
This is not a tutorial, I'm just showing what we did. .
I'm not an electrician, we are just doing this for our own self. We followed instructions from the builder supply that we purchased all of the materials from. We were told that a 3 wire install was ok as long as we grounded it at the sub panel. I checked a shop across the road from me and it was wired with 3 wires also. I did the install just like the shop across the road that was wired by a licensed electrician several years ago. I have learned recently that the new code requires 4 wires. The 3 wire system will work but does not meet code. We are going to go back and run an extra wire to make it meet the current code. If you are doing this check with your local electrical codes for more info. I hope that this info will help to clarify what I did. Calvin
