More than 1,000 children live in Europe's largest waste related ghetto in Romania. The fact that they all belong to the Roma community is down to one specific reason: the minority group experiences persistent discrimination throughout Europe.
This has led to them being resettled right next to a landfill in Pata Rât where they live an “undignified life”, as Alex Fechete describes it.
He himself lived there for seven years and gives us a glimpse into a shocking parallel world.
With his background and the little resources he has, Alex tries to get the children out of the dumpster ghetto.
