Testing a starter generator with just a battery jumper pack, simple and no real tools needed, great way to check if your buying one from a swap meet or flea market, or just from someone you do not know, keep hands clear from any moving parts and secure the starter, Put 12 volts to the terminal that is Not marked F this would be the Armature terminal, this should make the pulley turn and spin up to high speed, then remove 12 volts from the Armature terminal and apply 12 volts to the terminal marked F while the pulley is still turning, If the pulley does NOT slow down quickly when you put 12Volts on the F terminal, this indicates a problem in the field wire and winding, if you notice a the pulley spinning erratic and not spinning up to speed smoothly, this would indicate there is a problem with the armature, remember to check for smoothness when turning the pulley, if its rough or makes noises , this is a bearing problem and can make the armature drag against the field coil shoes inside, remember even when the charging field is not working, the starter side can work, if the starter field is not damaged, Thumbs up if this helped you, thanks for watching!
