It’s no secret corn was a major part of the diet. Of course there are other foods that were available and consumed by our Diné.
But corn when prepared in this manner was perfect for winter storage. And even better was that the critters didn’t particularly love the corn when it was prepared this way.
In this video Navajo Historian, Wally Brown, teaches about the process of steaming the corn in a way that made it available for food storage. And would allow it to be put in a pot of boiling water and turned into a delicious, hearty stew.
