Meghan Markle's culinary aspirations have once again fallen victim to her penchant for grandiose statements and her seeming inability to follow through. But before we go any further, please subscribe and hit the notifications button so you don't miss any of our updates.
The long-awaited Netflix cooking show, which was originally intended to be a charming mix of culinary knowledge, gardening tips, light entertainment and heartwarming friendships, has reportedly been cancelled. Backstage talk suggests that Markle's demanding nature and penchant for micromanagement proved too much for a number of world-class chefs, ultimately leading to their departure and the show's demise.
The show's cancellation came amid rumours of a possible change of host, prompted by Harry's unexpectedly successful on-screen trials. It is speculated that Markle, faced with the prospect of sharing the spotlight, may have decided to opt out herself. This is not the first time Markle has caused a flurry of excitement but left behind a trail of unfulfilled promises.
Her previous foray into the podcast world with Spotify, a partnership with Bill Simmons, ended abruptly and poignantly. Simmons, in a rare moment of public candour, called Markle and Harry ‘bloody frauds’ - a harsh accusation that highlighted the palpable disconnect between their ambitious claims and actual results.
Markle's subsequent attempt to strike a deal with Audible, Amazon's podcast division, was also unsuccessful. She ended up contracting with a relatively unknown company called Lemonada Media, which brought Lemonada some publicity but ultimately produced no tangible results.
Although Markle claimed to be busy filming her cooking show on Netflix, she never created any content for Lemonada, pushing her commitment back to 2025. This pattern of over-promising and under-delivering is a recurring theme in Markle's career. She constantly draws the public's attention with grandiose promises, but rarely fulfils them. Her seeming laziness and sense of entitlement, coupled with the belief that her mere presence will be enough, hinders her efforts.
A cooking show designed to promote her American Riviera Orchard brand is now in jeopardy. Oh, and the brand itself is in a quandary: no CEO, no launch date, and no products beyond a few jars of jam and lemons. The lack of a tangible brand to cross-promote further diminishes the value of the show. Given Markle's track record, it's unlikely that a cooking show will ever see the light of day.
Netflix executives, realising that there is no value in promoting a non-existent brand, will likely cancel the project. Markle's narcissism and laziness, combined with her history of failed endeavours, will likely result in the cooking show joining the ranks of her other unrealised projects.
The cancellation of the cooking show serves as a stark reminder of Markle's tendency to prioritise self-promotion over substance. While she is great at creating headlines and cultivating a public persona, her inability to deliver on her promises has become a recurring theme. The cooking show, like so many of her previous endeavours, will likely remain a tantalising concept forever stuck in the realm of unrealised potential.
