The wintering grounds of west Texas offers up some exceptional hunting opportunity from mid November to the end of January. Hundreds of thousands of sandhill crane and lesser canada geese lay claim to the lone star state throughout the long winter.
From the overflowing milo fields, endless flights of crane, or nonstop lessers, it is sure to be a season we can’t wait to capture. Tejas Waterfowl leaves no stone unturned and the daily scout in the vast Texas landscape, is daunting for any waterfowl hunter.
West Texas is everything from the cowboy boots, country music and rodeos to the tacos, square dancing and football tailgates makes Texas one of the most unique states in America.
Sandhill Cranes are very large, tall birds with a long neck, long legs, and very broad wings. The bulky body tapers into a slender neck; the short tail is covered by drooping feathers that form a “bustle.” The head is small and the bill is straight and longer than the head.
They are truly an exceptional eating bird and a treat to watch float into the decoy spread.
