Selene Salinas is a self-taught artist who paints photorealistic paintings of people’s eyes. First, she takes a lot of pictures of someone’s eye and chooses several photographs to use as reference for the painting. Then, Selene starts the first layer where she draws and blocks out the shape of the eye, as well as the main colors that will go into the painting. The second layer is where she sets the right colors and works on the values of light to create the illusion of a three-dimensional eye. To finish, Selene observes as many small details as she can from the photographs, such as eyelashes and reflections, and paints them in. An oil painting can take her three weeks to a few months to complete, depending on the size.
