Welcome to the 31 Days of BPD – it’s Day 5
May is Borderline Personality Disorder awareness month, and I will be uploading one video a day, every day in May to raise awareness of this illness.
In this video, I will be going through the first of the 9 signs and symptoms of BPD taken from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM-4).
Today’s is number 1 of 9 - ‘Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment’.
Apologies for the DSM-4 and the DSM-5 mix up. I will try and explain here. The nine signs and symptoms appear in both the DSM-4 and 5, however, the DSM-5 has another, more detailed description. The reason I have chosen the DSM-4 is that they still currently use this to diagnose people, and it is what I first read when I was diagnosed. I am not doing you a disservice by not using the DSM-5, I just chose to use this version as it will be relevant to more people as it has been around for longer. Apologies again.
Thank you for taking the time to watch this - I hope to see you for the instalment of the 31 Days of BPD coming tomorrow.
Please subscribe to my channel for more videos about mental illness and leave any questions or comments you may have in the space below.
Take care

As with all my videos, I'm trying to explain everything as clearly as possible and provide examples from my life to help you understand. I might not get everything right every time, but I wanted to give it a go, and I hope it will be of benefit to you. This Vlog is from my perspective, but I do appreciate that not everyone will have had the same experience as myself - we are all different after all. I have also tried, where applicable, to reference everything correctly, but we are all human and make mistakes - please stick with me.
