Following conventional stick framing methods and codes, no special plans, no special expensive engineering, no high-priced certified builders required, no special tools and no costly cranes are needed when building with RAY-CORE SIPs ®. Here's How: RAYCORE combines the three labor saving tasks of framing, insulation and wrap into one smart and reliable SIP panel system. RAYCORE begins with premium #2 or better Douglas fir studs, prepositioned 16 or 24-inch on center. Insulation is molded in place using the highest R-value closed cell polyurethane foam. Then this is all wrapped up in a radiant air barrier, for a lightweight, easy to use 4-foot wide panel. Let’s begin framing… INSULATED WALL PANELS: Using conventional framing practices and materials, when building with RAYCORE Structural Insulated Wall Panels begin as you normally would with a single bottom plate. Frame the corner of your choice and cut your first RAYCORE SIP panel on layout. Come to a window or door? Simply cut the RAYCORE SIP panel, add king studs and trimmers, a sill plate and fill with panel below. Super insulate above by using RAYCORE’s preinsulated header or frame your own. Add more panel if needed. Frame out the rest of your wall, then top it off as you normally would with double top plates. During assembly it is important to seal panel joints to panels and all framing members along the way. Fill any gaps or voids with canned foam and when complete tape all seams to form a dependable airtight moisture-proof seal. Sheath as required by your building code official and you have a superiorly insulated airtight wall assembly that is strong enough to park a semi-truck on it! INSULATED ROOF PANELS: Insulating a roof is simple when it comes to RAYCORE Structural Insulated Roof Panels. Whether you have an engineered truss or rafters and ridge beam roof system, you can use RAY-CORE SIPs ®. RAYCORE's the perfect solution for those difficult to insulate cathedral ceilings. RAYCORE’s insulated roof panels are the answer to reliably insulating a roof, eliminating the common problems of high heat loss and gain, persistent ice dams and sheathing rot. RAYCORE Insulated Roof Panels are the fastest, easiest and most affordable way to insulate a roof and the lowest cost per R-value. Nothing needs to go to waste. You can use panel scraps from cuts to fill those smaller hard to insulate areas, always sealing to avoid air infiltration and carrying on that super insulation throughout the structure. Once you have framed your roof, install plastic sheathing or other continuous air and moisture barrier, taping at the seams. From there you will simply begin placing the RAYCORE roof panels on the roof, horizontal to the rafters, and screwing to the rafters through the panels wood framing members as code requires. Push the panels tight together and carefully seal with adhesive in-between and to all framing members to form an airtight joint. Finish off the panels at the ridge and rake. Once complete, check the panels for any gaps or voids and fill with canned foam. Tape all seams with moisture-proof tape to create an airtight and moisture-proof assembly, and you will have a strong and dependable superiorly insulated roof system that should last you the lifetime of your home. When it comes to eves and rakes, there is a variety of ways to frame them. You will save money by starting the panels at the wall and ladder framing the rest. Sheath the roof per standard framing practices, staggering the sheets to the insulated roof panel joints to create a sound and integrated roof system. Install dripedge, ice and water shield and other roofing underlayments as appropriate and specified by your engineer. Most roofing materials manufacturers approve their product for a hot roof application. If a cold roof is required RAYCORE advises that you cover the complete roof with a sealed membrane such as ice and water shield.
