This video is about removing an OLD riveted balance staff and replacing it with a NEW one - all using my favorite tool: the watchmakers staking tool (Watch staking set). I show the whole process, including the different stumps and punches and other specific tools to use for various purposes in this process so that you can do this yourself with ease.
A sign of needing to replace your balance staff: If your balance is wobbly and your watch won't run, it may be that a pivot was broken and the riveted balance staff needs replaced.
Pocket Watch Repair: I am working on a Waltham Key Wind Model 1877. This Pocket Watch was made in April or June of 1881. There was only 500 of them made on that run.
One of the pivots was broken off of this staff, so I had to remove the old riveted balance staff and then replace it! The watchmakers staking tool makes it possible!
