Created from a poem Blue wrote at 21 after leaving a sociology class and putting pen to paper in a flow state, the diary entry, '8 Seconds', was birthed. The text reflected on the realised experiences of being a queer youth.
At 21, Blue ventured down to Australian major city, Melbourne, for a weekend. One morning whilst at a cafe drinking their morning coffee, Bluey witnessed 12 people celebrating an individuals birthday. Around the table was a combination of queer and non-queer couples bringing together twelve mimosas in a cheer of celebrations. That moment was the first time Blue saw queerness, not in the light of drug and alcohol abuse and overt sexual behaviour, but became aware that queerness can look like community, acceptance and inclusion. From this experience, a download of mass realisations flooded Bluey; including the beginning of the first acceptance to a part of their own social and romantic identity.
What followed upon his return home to Sydney, in a sociology class, was a recognition of the suppressed memories; bullshit stories, verbal harassment and physical altercations he experienced. Realisations of why he had held himself back from acknowledging his own authenticity through out his adolescence. In this prolonged moment of un-ravelling, Bluey took pen to paper in a flow state of thought and wrote this diary entry, this poem.
With the direction and cinematography of Aidan Rice, who brought this poetic piece into visual life, Blue would love to present to you their short film '8 Seconds'.
