Episode 5: Late on Saturday afternoon severe storms pounded the Dayton/Xenia area forcing hams attending outdoor activities at Hamvention to seek safety in the onsite tornado shelter (also called the bathroom). Many left the venue for the day and tried to drive to a safe area with visions of the possibility of muddy, flooded fields from past years coming to mind. Skywarn spotters reported funnel cloud sightings, large hail, flooding rains, and damaging wind. Yours truly drove into the storm to chase the tornado and capture all the excitement on sound and video for YOU to experience in case you missed it! 😆 We all made it through safely to enjoy another day of Hamvention. Ironically, a vendor at the expo was selling a "Tornado Detector" and various scientific groups, including the National Weather Service, were promoting weather spotting and awareness programs and equipment prior to the storm's approach!
