Track 3 from their second album "October" released in 1981 copyright Island Records. It was recorded at Windmill Lane Recording Studios in Dublin, Ireland and Island's Compass Point Studio in Nassau, Bahamas and was again produced by Steve Lillywhite. This album consisted mostly of songs with religious and spiritual themes. Although the single "Fire" had already been recorded in the Bahamas, the rest of the new songs were still "works in progress." Unfortunately, while on tour in Portland, Oregon, Bono's briefcase, containing all his lyrics and musical ideas, went missing. This forced the band to start from scratch in writing most of the songs for the album. They did so while on tour and later in the studio while their producer paced the floor and the cost of studio time kept increasing. However, even with that kind of pressure, Bono later stated that he felt the album had a sense of peace to it, oddly enough. The album had less impact than their debut and received mixed reviews and less radio airplay. With the increasing popularity of MTV the band realized the potential of music videos as an important way to gain exposure for their music and hired an Irish director to create one for the song "Gloria." The album reached No. 104 in the U.S., No. 96 in Germany, No. 41 in Spain, No. 40 in Sweden, No. 34 in Australia, No. 17 in Ireland, No. 11 in the U.K. and No. 6 in New Zealand. It later achieved Gold status in France, Australia and New Zealand and Platinum status in the U.S. and the U.K. Written by U2 and produced by Steve Lillywhite. Featuring:
Bono - Lead vocals
The Edge - Lead & rhythm guitars, piano & background vocals
Adam Clayton - Bass
Larry Mullen Jr. - Drums
Special Guest:
Vinnie Killduff - Uileann pipes & bodhran
I was talking, I was talking to myself
Somebody else talk, talk, talking
I couldn't hear a word, a word he said
He was my brother (brother)
I said there was no other way out of here
Be my brother (brother)
Gotta get out, gotta get out
I was walkin', I was walkin' into walls, I'm back again
I just keep walkin', I walk up to a window to see myself
And my reflection when I thought about it
My direction, going nowhere, going nowhere
No one, no one is blinder
Than he who will not see
No one (no one is blinder)
(Than me)
I was talking, I was talkin' in my sleep
I can't stop talk, talk, talking
I'm talkin' to you, it's up to you
Be my brother (brother)
There is no other way out of here
Be my brother (brother)
Gotta get out, gotta get out
Gotta get out of here
