Chinese, Russian naval ships conducted a joint drill aimed at protecting shipping securities on Wednesday in the Mediterranean during the ongoing joint naval exercise code-named "Joint Sea 2015-I."
The drill of rescuing a hijacked vessel acted by Chinese supply ship Weishanhu started at 10:00.
Special force soldiers took a helicopter based on the Chinese missile frigate Linyi went to the incident area swiftly to guard against the "pirates" and rescue the hijacked ship.
Meanwhile, Chinese missile frigate Weifang and Russian frigate Ladnyy dispatched boats that carried the special force soldiers to forcibly board on the hijacked ship.
Some "pirates" struggled to take the bridge, but were all controlled by the Chinese special force soldiers. All the crew members were saved.
The Chinese Weifang and Russian Ladnyy then changed their courses and accelerated to approach a suspected vessel, acted by a Russian ship, to board and inspect.
Wednesday's drills also included deploying defense at shipping and fishery waters, and assisting ships in distress.
"The drills are practical. Both sides completed their missions in accordance with the tactical requirements and operations, and achieved the expected goals," said Zhou Yong, chief of staff of the Chinese fleet.
