How has our understanding of the nature of the Milky Way changed? What is its origin and eventual fate? Our speaker, Dr. Patrick Treuthardt, will discuss some of the historical science that shaped our perception of the Galaxy and our place in it. I will also discuss some of the more modern revelations that have given us insight into our Galaxy’s past, present, and future.

Dr. Patrick Treuthardt is an astrophysicist whose research focuses on the shapes, structures, and underlying physical processes of galaxies. He also takes part in science communication and public outreach activities that increase access to astronomy and science in general. He is currently the Assistant Head of the Astronomy & Astrophysics Research Lab at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.
