In this video I show how to use the leak down tester from Harbor freight. In order to perform the test the cylinder needs to be at top dead center on the compression stroke. In the video I go through the process on how to find and verify that you’re on top dead center on the compression stroke not the exhaust stroke. Then we hook the gauge up to the air compressor and calibrate It. It’s really sensitive but once you get it set to zero then you can go ahead and hook it up to the cylinder and it will give you an indication of how much air is leaking from the cylinder. While the cylinder is leaking you can listen in other areas to see where the leak might be coming from. Some common places to have a leak would be the exhaust valve, the intake valve, the head gasket from the cylinder to the water jacket, Or write down the piston rings into the crank case.
