Check out this awesome VFX Breakdown for the TV series Constantine on NBC, by the talented team at Important Looking Pirates! As always when it comes to Constantine, each episode comes with it’s own set of exciting challenges. And episode 7, “Blessed are the damned”, was no different. Angel wings, a full CG digi-double, simulations and other FX work were all required to make this episode come to life.
We used Houdini for smoke simulations as well as creating dynamic digital leaves to cover up the digital wings and the body of our actor during the sequence when the Angel is discovered by John Constantine. The rest of the effects work like cloth simulation and digital wings were all created inside Maya. Adding digital wings on our live action actor required a really solid match move based on the movement of the actor as well as some extensive compositing work to get the light interaction and shadows from the digital wings to play naturally with the live action photography. Great work from all departments lead to some really cool looking shots!
