Drinks editor Laura Richards goes to meet Cedric, the ghost that haunts The Grenadier in Belgravia.
This characterful old pub once served as the officers' mess for the First Royal Regiment of Foot Guards in the British Army, until 1818 when it evolved into The Guardsman Pub. Now it's known as The Grenadier, named so due to a tale about a Grenadier guard called Cedric, who was beaten to death after cheating in a card game. Now patrons of the pub stick money to the ceiling in a bid to pay off Cedric's debt and as a result its plastered with notes from all over the world. It's quite a sight to behold.
