Cupcake and I have started working on what will be a 16'x16' elevated cabin with a slanted roof, cantilever porch and a wooden staircase going up to the cabin. Our little piece of heaven is in a flood zone in South Tennessee, so the cabin will be on a deck 8 feet above the ground (typical flooding here is few feet). We're building it ourselves - we've built other structures on our property here and when we were in Louisiana, but this will be our biggest build so far.

We used our Predator Gas Powered Auger to dig the holes for the posts, with a little help from a traditional post-hole digger. The posts have 4 feet in the ground, 8 feet above, with a substantial deck that will be the floor of the cabin. This video covers Phase 1 of the build, so watch for additional phases as we continue this project.

We're working to get the cabin finished by the end of November, 2022, with the hopes of keeping the project below $10k. This will be our home (when we're not traveling in with our cargo trailer - see links to that and other videos below) and we'll definitely appreciate the extra space. It's going to be a tiny home with only 256 square feet, a 64 square foot cantilever porch, and a wooden staircase leading up to the porch. We don't plan to have electricity or plumbing in the home (though we do have a power pole for our cargo trailer and charge batteries there or use our Honda generator if we need to). It could be described as a "camp" as we're building on unrestricted property, don't have specific building codes to follow, and insurance isn't available.

Please note that we're doing this build ourselves and we're confident in our abilities (though my career as a nursing home administrator and Cupcake's career as a nurse don't necessarily related to home building). I'm sure some will see mistakes, that we're not doing things in a way that might be typical, but that's ok. We all have to live and learn from our mistakes and this build is working for us and we think it will be helpful for others looking to live more simply.
