Our Why Pharmacy Wednesday this week focuses on P1 student Michael Brunson. He's on our Pocatello campus and is originally from Idaho Falls.
••When he’s not studying, he loves outdoor activities like fishing, camping, and backpacking. He says he also enjoy project type hobbies like woodworking and furniture restoration.
••Micheal chose pharmacy because he loved biochemistry and was fascinated with the idea that we could alter the biochemistry of the body with exogenous substances, which led to his interest in the career of pharmacy.
••He is very interested in antibiotic therapy and hopes to work in an environment where he can regularly apply that, like an infectious disease clinic. 🦠
••A fun fact about Micheal is that he and his wife bought their first home in June of this year. Congrats! 🏡🔑
••Michael says his favorite part about ISU are the professors! He says “The instructors so far are fantastic. I haven't had a bad experience with one yet, I am very impressed by the quality of all the professors and their instruction.”
••When asked if he had a mentor or someone who inspired him to pursue pharmacy, Michael says “Yes, his name is Justin Merrill. I was working as a suit salesman 4 years ago when I wold him a suit. He liked me and asked me if I wanted to work in a pharmacy. He hired me on the spot while I was sizing him for a suit and over the years as I worked for him at Mike's Pharmacy in Idaho Falls I decided I really liked the field and wanted to do it for a career. “ Thanks, Justin!
••His advice to anyone applying to the program is to get some pharmacy experience before applying to the program. You are deciding on a career to determine the rest of your life! Get some experience in the field to see if you actually want to do it - even if its just shadowing hours.
Thanks, Michael! We’re so glad that you are a part of our Bengal Pharmily! 🐅💊
You can follow him at @michael.brunson to keep up with him on his life and pharmacy journey!
