Welcome to part 3 of restoration of a Stanley mid century modern sideboard lovingly named “The Cherry” 🍒
In part 1 and 2 we covered most of the paint removal. In part 3 things get more exciting as we start to get a look at the future potential of this piece.
But before we get there I had to remove the last remnants of the paint. To do this I used a combo of sanding and stripping. First I lightly sanded the surface to remove whatever paint I could. Next I used chemical stripper and a brush to work the paint put of the wood grain. It was a slow and tedious process.
Next I made a couple repairs, adding filler to any chips. Surprisingly there really weren’t many which indicates this piece was actually in decent shape before being painted. 😞
In final preparation for finishing another round of sanding then was done. I couldn’t help but get a preview to validate the hours invested already. The walnut and rosewood grain on this piece is phenomenal. 🔥
I’ll be adding color and finish in part 4 which should be amazing based on the previewed grain.
Ill admit some steps aren’t the most exciting but the goal is to really showcase the effort and time that goes into a project like this.
I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments if your enjoying the process 🙂
