To celebrate National Clarinet Day, we are showcasing Frank Ticheli’s "Concerto for Clarinet and Wind Ensemble." The United States Air Force Band had the distinct pleasure to record this concerto at The Theater at MGM National Harbor with Frank Ticheli himself as the conductor AND with the phenomenal Anthony McGill (principal clarinetist, New York Philharmonic ) as the featured soloist.
The first movement, featured here, is called Rhapsody for George. It gives a nod to Gershwin's famous clarinet solo, containing chromatic and jazz elements that become more present with the walking bass line and jazz-influenced syncopation.
We feel there is no better way to honor this special day than to highlight our collaboration with these two giants. Check out the recording here!
