Intestinal cancer is a general term for cancer that develops in the intestines. There are two
main types of intestinal cancer: colon cancer and small intestine cancer. Colon cancer is cancer that develops in the large intestine, also known as the colon. Small intestine cancer is cancer that develops in the small intestine. The small intestine is the first part of the digestive tract after the stomach.

Colon cancer typically affects older adults, though it can happen at any age. It usually begins as small, noncancerous (benign) clumps of cells called polyps that form on the inside of the colon. Over time, some of these polyps can become colon cancers.
