I show how to get 250 coins in Bowser in the Fire Sea. Unlike Bowsers #1 and #3, this Bowser does NOT blow fire that makes yellow coins, so I cannot simply get 999 coins like I did for those ones. Instead, all the extra coins come from cloning coins, using the single bob-omb on the course. Now, you might be thinking, why did I stop at 250 coins? Well I didn't just arbitrarily choose to stop there. To best of my knowledge, it actually IS the maximum amount of coins you can get there. See, in the 15 main courses, I always stopped at 255 coins (because that's the maximum score that can be saved), and in all other courses I go up to 999 coins if possible. However, Bowser in the Fire Sea seems to be the only course that I stopped for a different reason. Namely, if I tried to get any more coins, the game would freeze. See, I cloned so many coins that the game would have frozen if I tried to do anymore, and I explain how I know this in the video.
Making this video was a PAIN! It took 3 days to actually do it all, since it was just so many clones! Also, the tricky stunt I did with the bob-omb at the end and the tricky jumps I used to avoid the flame shooters took a considerable amount of time to pull off. Additionally, windows live movie maker was not too happy about having hundreds of second-long clips of me cloning each coin, so that was annoying. But of course, all that extra effort makes the final product that much more satisfying!
***SPOILER ALERT***
In total, I cloned 171 coins, and collected 79 of the 80 on the course. That makes 250 in all. I left exactly one coin left in the course because the game was so close to freezing that collecting it would have frozen the game (from the twinkles that the coin creates). It's also impossible to clone anymore coins because the bob-omb's explosion (no matter how it's done) will freeze the game. It should be noted that I also collected the 7 lives and the red coin star, since that freed up several slots that I could use for cloned coins. See, each life checkpoint, life, and the star count as 1 object, so collecting them (and hence unloading them) frees up their slots, and then I could store a coin clone in that slot. That was necessary for maximizing the coin score.
I should probably remark on this now, lest someone point it out as a potential flaw later. Although the bob-omb cannot EXPLODE at the end (since exploding takes 3 objects and we have only 2 to spare), the bob-omb can still BOIL, much like a bully does (and this takes only 1 object). Since boiling causes the bob-omb to go from a loaded state to an unloaded state, hypothetically it would be possible to grab a fake bob-omb like this. After all, the lava on the 2nd and 3rd floor in this course are so shallow, that the bob-omb actually comes out beneath the floor during his boiling animation, so you can watch him disappear from below. But here's the problem. Although you can dive at the bob-omb when he does this, it seems to be impossible to grab any fake object without the traditional grab (so no diving or sliding into them). I'm guessing this is because of the delayed effect of the grab, compared to the instant effect of the others. The only way you would be able to grab a fake bob-omb that's boiling would be to stand RIGHT under the lava platform (to execute the grab), but there are no platforms close enough to do this. The falling blocks towards the end of Bowser are the only potential candidate for this (since they peak through the bottom after falling, and are still tangible), though we cannot go close to them at the end anyway since the game would freeze. So as far as I know right now, it's not possible. But if it were, then 2 more clones would be possible, though I'm not sure if you could still make your way to Bowser at the end.
