UC Davis Aquaculture takes a behind the scenes tour with Dr. Jackson Gross at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery, operated by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Our interpreter Stephanie Ambrosia does her best to keep Dr. Gross out of trouble as we learn all about the aquaculture of chinook salmon ( king salmon ) and steelhead conservation aquaculture in the fish hatchery. In this part 1 fish video we get a close up look at the outside fish tanks and raceways which hold millions of juvenile chinook salmon. We also get a sneak peek into the California aquaculture of salmon fish tagging trailer and get a lesson in modern fish farming technology from Evan Baron.
Salmon and steelhead get their start in fish hatcheries before being released into rivers and finding their way back to the ocean. Visit the Nimbus Fish Hatchery in Rancho Cordova California at the base of Folsom dam and Folsom lake.
Visitor Center open Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Saturday - Sunday 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.
