Idling engine offences more than halved in 2019 from three years ago, thanks to increased public outreach and enforcement by the National Environment Agency (NEA). Cases of motorists leaving engines running while stationary in non-traffic conditions fell to 2,800 in 2019 from 6,400 in 2016. Repeat offences fell to only one from 90.
