We interviewed John McLeod about the pluralist approach to therapy set out in his new book with Mick Cooper titled "Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy" (Sage, 2011).
In this book a pluralistic perspective is identified as a philosophy underpinning an attitude to therapeutic work that is valuing of all the different therapeutic orientations and the wisdom and resources that have grown up in these ways of working. That there is "no one, best way of helping people", but that human endeavour has produced a "range of 'right' answers" and that it is "essential to acknowledge and value this diversity and difference."
John and Mick also identify a pluralistic approach that puts the client, and the dialogue between therapist and client, at the centre of the therapeutic journey.
For those who are unfamiliar with these ideas, brief introductory accounts of key aspects of pluralistic therapy can be found at:

A pluralistic perspective challenges traditional views of therapy and the training of therapists in ways that are thought-provoking and inspiring. The interview is an opportunity to hear directly from John McLeod about his journey into this work and his current thinking.
