Louis Vierne was the blind organist at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. He was famous for his improvisations and organ symphonies. I recently played this piece for the 100th anniversary concert of the Wicks organ at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Paul, MN, where I have been the organist for the last 30 years. The organ has 30-ranks, including several ranks added by the Hunt organ company. The organ is supplemented with a Hauptwerk virtual organ system, using the 48-rank, 1903 Cavaille-Coll organ at the Notre Dame de Metz in Metz, France.
