Thank you to Dream rentals for letting us play around with their criminally-fast Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The barely street legal Weissach track champ is an aluminum, carbon fiber and magnesium wonder that will deafen you if it drives by you in a tunnel. This silver rear-wheel drive 911 does a quarter mile in 9.42s, and if living is not your thing, it has a widowmaker mode - you can turn off traction control and throw yourself around in a destruction derby kind of way.
It’s beautiful to look at, even by Porsche standards, and there’s an optional fire extinguisher on the floor in front of the passenger seat to remind you you’re in a serious machine. It’s not exceptionally comfy or roomy, as we had our 6’5” writer barely squeeze into it. That’s because in true racecar fashion, you can’t adjust the seats. They sit on an immovable carbon fiber tub, and they are placed in the place that the Porsche engineers deemed optimal for weight distribution. You move the steering wheel and pedals, like on an F1 car.
Although the GT2 RS’s production run sadly came to a halt in February 2019, its lightweight body and subtly smiling carbon fiber hood will live on in our recent memories, and the day we spent with it will last forever.
