In this video, you will learn about the seven differences between red wine and white wine. At the end of this video, we will share our recommendations on which type of wine is best for beginners!

This video begins by describing the difference between red wine and white wine in the way they are made. White wine is made from only grape juice. Red wine is made from grape juice that is then soaked with the grape seeds and skins. This extra step is what gives red wine its color!

Red wine and white wine are made from different types of grapes. For the most part, white wine is made from white or green colored grapes, and red wine is made from red or purple colored grapes. Popular red wine grape varietals include Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Popular white wine varietals include Chardonnay, Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc.

Tannins are found only in red wine and not white wine. Tannins come from the grape skins, seeds, and stems. Since red wine’s grape juice is soaked with these elements, it becomes tannic. White wine is not soaked with these elements, so it does not absorb tannins. Because of this, red wine has tannins, white wine does not!

Red wine and white wine taste different from one another. In our opinion, white wine often has more fruity and floral notes to it. We also consider white wine to not taste as dry as red wine because it does not contain tannins.

Red wine and white wine are typically paired with different types of food. Red wine is usually paired with red meats and more intense flavored foods. White wine is most often paired with white meat and less intensely flavored foods.

There are also differences in alcohol content between the different types of wine. In our experience, white wine generally ranges from 5 to 13% alcohol. Red wine, in our experience, ranges from 11 to 19% alcohol.

Red wine is often considered healthier than white wine. This is because of the various elements in red wine that can make it better for your heart health. We do not recommend that you drink red wine specifically for your health and recommend you drink alcohol in moderation.

Our recommendation for beginner wine drinkers is, to begin with drinking white wine and transition to red wine. In our opinion, the flavors in white wine are often more suitable for beginner wine drinkers. Once you develop your palate and taste for wine, you can gradually transition to drinking more red wines!
