Today we make and drink Trader Vic's Golden Grog in Trader Vic's Golden Koi Fish Mug. This is a fun riff on the traditional Trader's grog with the addition of Rhum Agricole and honey syrup.
The passion fruit syrup I use is homemade, and not too complicated. It's a basic syrup with frozen "Pitaya Plus Seedless Passion Fruit Bite-Sized Pieces." The passion fruit is pulp-less, so when it melts it's a clear-ish and clean liquid. I basically use that as my "water" and then add in equal parts sugar. There's already some sweetness in the passion fruit so you end up with a syrup closer to a 2:1 rich simple syrup. If the passion fruit flavor is not intense enough, add more passion fruit.
I've never been a huge collector of Tiki Mugs, but when I stumble into a Trader Vic's or Trader Sam's I do check for interesting, new or different mugs. According to Trader Vic's, the mug was created by their in-house artist, Javier.
