Prostate cancer is the second leading malignancy in male worldwide, with over a million new incidences diagnosed annually. To increase the chance of cure, early detection of aggressive prostate cancer is crucial. However, current techniques relying on prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test is limited in sensitivity and specificity with up to 75% false positive rate. To tackle the challenge, we pioneer in detecting prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), which expression has been proven to correlate with the aggressiveness of prostate cancer. In this work, we collaborated with Dr. Lesniak and Dr. Pomper to develop a dual imaging agent for both fluorescence imaging and photoacoustic imaging, and validated in vivo.
