The Diaobingshan mining railway, formerly knows a Tiefa, is located 70km north of Shenyang in Liaoning Province, NE China. At one time this system operated a large number of steam locomotives but as in most of China, this has sadly decreased. All freight is now diesel hauled but a steam passenger service for mine staff and their families still operates on four lines.
On a cold, misty morning, barking dogs and the clatter from a nearby quarry accompany an SY class 2-8-2 from Diaobingshan as it rounds a sweeping curve, past a church, before stopping at the terminus at Wangqian. December 2009
