Tropical Storm Arlene formed yesterday in the Gulf of Mexico, to the west of the Florida Peninsula, and is currently drifting southwards towards western Cuba with winds near 40 miles per hour. With convection on its northeastern side, the rest of the storm remains bare with a partially exposed low level circulation. Arlene is enhancing thunderstorm activity across central Florida this evening, although winds are not expected to become problematic.

The storm will weaken fairly quickly and will dissolve into a remnant low as it reaches Cuba tomorrow, and then what's left of the system will move east and northeast towards the northern Bahamas.

Elsewhere, tropical disturbances could develop into mature tropical cyclones next week in the Western Pacific and the Arabian Sea.
