Surgery and radiation are the leading treatments for prostate cancer, but both of these have significant risks of side effects such as erection loss or incontinence. There has got to be a better way to treat prostate cancer with lower risks...Well...THERE IS! Focal Therapy is a treatment for prostate cancer where you try to burn only the area of cancer in the prostate but keep the rest of the gland untouched.
In theory this is the optimal treatment but the clinical data is not as perfect as one might expect. Here we review all the clinical data supporting the use of focal therapy, the types of focal therapy including HIFU, FLA, TULSA, IRE, PDT and cryotherapy.
